My roommates and I only get 1 TV channel (NBC)- everyone seems to think this is crazy. After all, who in this day and age doesn't have cable television? And it's not that we are too poor to get it, we would rather spend our money on other things, like going out. Plus I think we are all too lazy to actually sign up for it.
I think not really having television is a good thing. When I had cable in my apartment last year, I sometimes used to stay up extremely late for no good reason, except for the fact that something mildly interesting was on some random cable channel. I would stay up til 3 in the morning to watch some weird documentary on HBO.
Now, I don't have that problem. I don't really like watching the Tonight Show, so if I feel a need to stay up late, I can read a book or hang out with friends. It's much more intellectually stimulating to have an actual conversation that to watch one. I guess I just realized what an utter waste of time it is to let your mind go for a few hours to watch TV. I just wish people wouldn't freak out so much when they learn I can't watch the Real World.
